This test equipment simulates corrosion testing in an artificial environment and is used to compare the quality of metallic materials with and without corrosion protection. It is suitable for rapid analysis of discontinuities, pores, and damage in organic and inorganic coatings. Furthermore, it can compare specimens coated with the same coating for quality control purposes. Salt spray testing is particularly useful for detecting discontinuities, such as pinholes and other defects, in certain metallic, organic, anodic, and conversion coatings.

1. The Neutral Salt Spray Test (NSS) is applicable to metals and their alloys, metal coatings (anode and cathode), conversion coatings, anodic oxidation coatings, and organic coatings on metallic materials.

2. The Acetic Acid Salt Spray Test (AASS) is particularly suitable for testing decorative copper + nickel + chromium, or nickel + chromium coatings; it has also been found to be suitable for testing anodic aluminum coatings.

3. The Copper Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray Test (CASS) is suitable for testing decorative copper + nickel + chromium, or nickel + chromium coatings; it has also been found to be suitable for testing decorative aluminum coatings. It is suitable for testing anodic coatings on aluminum.

Note: Because the corrosion process is influenced by many factors, such as the formation of protective films, which vary greatly with the conditions encountered, there is rarely a direct correlation between resistance to salt spray and resistance to other media. Therefore, the test results obtained cannot be used as a direct guide to the corrosion resistance of the tested metal materials in all possible environments. Similarly, the performance of different materials in this test cannot be used as a direct guide to the corrosion resistance of these materials in service.
