Function:
This multifunctional test equipment can be used for corrosion testing in simulated artificial environments and for comparative quality testing of metal materials with and without corrosion protection. It is suitable for rapid analysis of discontinuities, pores, and damage in organic and inorganic coatings. Furthermore, it can be used to compare specimens coated with the same coating for quality control purposes. Salt spray testing is particularly suitable for detecting discontinuities, such as pinholes and other defects, in certain metals, organic, anodic oxidation, and conversion coatings. It can also be used to accelerate corrosion during outdoor exposure by spraying sodium chloride salt spray into the gaps between sample surfaces. The following are some of the tests:
1. The neutral salt spray test (NSS) is applicable to metals and their alloys, metal coatings (anode and cathode), conversion coatings, anodic oxidation coatings, and organic coatings on metal materials.
2. The acetic acid salt spray test (AASS) is particularly suitable for testing decorative copper, nickel, and chromium, or nickel and chromium coatings; it has also been found to be suitable for testing anodic aluminum coatings.
3. The copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test (CASS) is applicable to testing decorative copper, nickel, and chromium, or nickel and chromium coatings; it has also been found to be suitable for testing decorative aluminum coatings. It is suitable for testing aluminum anodic coatings.
4. Intermittent Salt Spray Outdoor Accelerated Test (Scab Test): This is a similar test method developed primarily for the automotive industry to study sub-film corrosion, particularly on steel surfaces damaged by splashing sand and gravel. The scab test is applicable to various metal substrates with or without coatings. Some substrates will exhibit a scab-like appearance after testing; others will not.
